After losing her son to an opioid overdose and finding no resources in her community for support, Susan started a local chapter of GRASP and became an advocate for addiction treatment.
Name: Susan Zilberman
Age: 60
Birthplace: NY
What woman in your life has been the greatest source of inspiration to you? My daughters have been the greatest inspiration to me. They are kind, strong, intelligent and care so much about the world.
What does it mean to be extraordinary? I guess it means to give the best you have. I don’t often think of “extraordinary” because every ordinary one of us is special.
How do you hope to inspire the next generation of women? By listening to them and encouraging them as they find their voice and their power.
What motivates you to do your extraordinary work? My work is motivated by my experience and a desire to help others with similar experiences. The death of my son Gregg from an overdose in 2008 motivates me to create a supportive space for others who have lost their loved ones to substance use disorder.
